SUMMARY:
The Underwriter I position is responsible for profitability, growth, and retention of the assigned book of business, in support of company goals and objectives, by managing account activities and following sound practices (marketing/soliciting/underwriting/production) and service standards on their assigned book/team of new and renewal business.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Underwrite risks for assigned producers, and/or assigned teams or jurisdiction, within established guidelines and personal authority levelReview, quote, and bind new submissions and renewal business, within company standards and systemsMeet all current, pre-established, premium production objectives by writing profitable business within the established company standards and systemsMarket C&S Specialtyproducts to brokers, prospects, and insureds, including travel to producer/prospect locationsServe as an active participant in the underwriting team to meet objectives, as well as identify and resolve teamwork issuesAccurately document files with account analysis, underwriting, and financial documentation, within established standardsBuild, and effectively maintain, successful relationships with clients and carriersAssist in training all new underwriting personnel, including participation in training sectionsReview all activities relating to the public, customers, and companies to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissionsParticipate in seminars and other training to maintain required licenses and for knowledge and skill developmentADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1-3 Years previous commercial underwriting (casualty risk) preferredBachelor's Degree or the equivalent in related work experienceInsurance-related certifications/designations (CIC, INS, CPCU, AU) preferredWORKING CONDITIONS AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:
Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing prioritiesAbility to perform approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequentlyAbility to lift up to 20 pounds occasionallyRequires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video displayAll requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate physical or mental impairment
