SUMMARY:Come join the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) as the agency's new Accountant IV. In this role, an exceptional leader has the opportunity to join the Controller and Deputy Controllers in shaping a newly reorganized team, build new systems and processes, and help a State agency focused on supporting districts, schools, and teachers ensure Colorado students are prepared for success. The ideal candidate will bring a strong knowledge of governmental accounting, be able to interpret and analyze fiscal rules and policies, be a collaborative problem-solver who is focused on supporting internal and external stakeholders in alignment with the agency's mission, and be an experienced supervisor and team builder.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise a staff of 3 accountantsReview and approve financial transactionsReview coding and spending authority and approve as applicableReview, and process interagency transactionsReview and approve UDOCsReview and approve Purchase Orders in COREDiagnostic report preparation and submission to ControllerAssist in potential implementation of new timekeeping systemAssist in potential implementation of new statewide payroll systemAnalyze CORE data to ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting activitiesBusiness Product Owner as applicableAnalyze procedures to determine if efficiencies can be found.Assist with both internal and external audits and year end activities.Perform financial analyses as necessary. Advise stakeholders (for example, general accounting management, Budget Office, Procurement, Audit, etc.) of critical financial issues and necessary actions to be taken in the current period to mitigate potential negative future impacts.Review and approve employee/non-employee travel reimbursements.Assist in developing, implementing, and updating CDE travel rules and Q&A.Review and revise business practices, training, and procedures with input from all staff.Determine most effective training for accounting staff, including coaching, feedback and evaluation.Taking lead or serving as backup for Cost Allocation and for submission of the Indirect Cost Rate proposal.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Nine (9) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position-Two of these years must be in a leadership or management/professional accounting position (accountant, Staff accountant, etc)OREducation and Experience:A combination of related education (Bachelors or Masters degree) in Accounting of Finance or Auditing will substitute for 4 of these years.Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will count for six (6) years of the requirement
