The Press Model Y Production Team is looking for a Tool & Die Engineer at our Gigafactory in Austin, TX (GFTX). The ideal candidate will be responsible for production dies, process planning for new and existing projects working with Stamping Engineering, Materials, Production teams and Internal/External Die Vendors to deliver a final product to cost, time & quality targets.
Responsibilities
Review die processes for parts to stay within cost, can meet quality targets & follow through to full productionAdhere to simulation guidelines & die design standardsMake detailed studies & provide recommendations to the team for solving process and feasibility issuesAssess automation blank loading and transfer arms to ensure press speed and end of arm cups not damaging panelsDirect tool changes to tune dies per dimensional quality engineer to ensure dies are capable and repeatEnsure dies meet production process intent for cost, quality & repeatabilityPerform vendor die design reviews ensuring die robustness and performance targets are metOversight of package of work through to home line activitiesDevelop inventory for spare details, punches & buttons using die BOMEnsure production readiness of dies, scrap shed, SPM, & no burrs/sliversRequirements
Good understanding of press/stamping processes & die designKnowledge of material properties for aluminum & steel2+ Years of simulation / die design experience preferred in class 'A' parts, aluminum & steel, die build/tryoutDriven, energetic, and willing to "get out of the box" with solutions and processes to advance production manufacturingAbility to work with, and lead others within a collaborative team environmentProficient in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word, ProjectExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCompensation and BenefitsBenefits
