Position Summary and Purpose: The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of goods and services for the organization. This role involves developing and implementing purchasing strategies, negotiating with suppliers, and managing vendor relationships to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with various departments to understand their needs and ensure that all procurement activities align with the organization’s objectives and budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Procurement Strategy Development:

Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives.

Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct supplier assessments, and establish long-term partnerships.

Monitor market trends, pricing, and supply conditions to make informed purchasing decisions.

Vendor Management:

Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best possible deals for the organization.

Manage and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.

Resolve any issues or disputes with suppliers in a timely and effective manner.

Inventory Management:

Collaborate with inventory management teams to maintain optimal inventory levels, minimizing excess stock and shortages.

Monitor inventory turnover and work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.

Implement and maintain inventory control systems and processes to track and manage stock levels.

Budget Management:

Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring that procurement activities stay within allocated funds.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality.

Monitor spending and provide regular reports on purchasing activities to senior management.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure that all procurement activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

Identify and mitigate risks associated with the procurement process, including supply chain disruptions and vendor reliability.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all purchasing activities, contracts, and agreements.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and mentor the purchasing team, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance their skills and performance.

Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages continuous improvement and innovation.

Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to support their professional growth.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.

Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or similar certification is preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.

Previous experience in a managerial or leadership role is required.

Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain management, and vendor negotiation.

Skills and Competencies:

Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on cost efficiency and quality.

Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.

Physical demands: Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: Office environment with occasional visits to supplier locations and operational sites. The employee is occasionally exposed to non-air-conditioned temperatures in the manufacturing area, and occasionally moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud at times when in the manufacturing facility. Occasional Travel (<15%).
