Purchasing ManagerGeneral Job Responsibilities forPurchasing ManagerGeneral DescriptionFounded in 1975, Service Steel and Pipe is the largest, locally owned steel and metals distributor in Northwest Louisiana. This position will report directly to the Operations Manager and will work alongside the other team of managers at Service Steel & Pipe.The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the entire procurement/supply-chain functional area to include negotiations, purchasing activities, expenditures, expediting, in-bound logistics and inventory management to support the Service Steel and Pipes business plan and ongoing operations to achieve optimum profitability. You will be given authority to perform all the responsibilities set forth in this job description below.Responsibilities:The Purchasing Managers essential function will be to oversee the purchasing and procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services necessary for the companys daily operations. This position will play a crucial role in the efficient process of managing its supply chain and inventory. The Purchasing Managers essential function will be to manage the following responsibilities and improve them as they grow within their position.Maintaining and Improving Procurement Strategies: Maintain existing procurement strategies and policies for cost optimization while enhancing supply chain efficiencies. Make necessary improvements as needed to streamline purchasing and inventory management.Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain existing relationships with all current and new suppliers. Identify, evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, reliability, cost effectiveness and adherence to ethical and sustainability standards. This will also include ongoing supplier performance evaluations, issue resolutions, and fostering long-term supplier partnerships.Supplier Negotiations: Negotiate supplier contracts and terms with suppliers to ensure favorable pricing, payment terms and mutually beneficial agreements. Will be tasked with negotiating supplier rebates and discounts.Market Research: Maintain an excellent knowledge of the steel industry markets and conduct market research and analysis to stay updated on industry trends, supplier capabilities, price trends and fluctuations.Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, analyze demand patterns and implement inventory management strategies to manage stock levels and avoid shortages and excesses.Management Team Collaboration: Collaborate with internal management team to ensure strategy alignment with regards to procurement and inventor activities and organization goals. Communicate industry market, pricing, and availability trends with management team on a regular basis. Manage and coordinate with warehouse team to ensure that inventory is properly received, stored and distributed.Purchase Order Management: Maintain all company ongoing purchase orders through the existing company software system. Place orders with customers as needed and manage receiving documents and material testing records (MTRs) to match and follow inventory entries.Coordinate Receiving Logistics: Frequently coordinate inbound freight deliveries either to customers or company location for purchased materials. Oversee inbound logistics and transportation to ensure that materials and goods are delivered efficiently and effectively.NOTE: The preceding list of responsibilities is not arranged in order of priority. Responsibilities will from time to time be altered by Management to suit the needs of the Company.Requirements:Prior purchasing experience is recommended (1 Year minimum, 3+ years preferred.)Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field is preferredPrior experience in supplier relations, supply chain management and management team and/or customer serviceStrong understanding of supply chain management, including sourcing, logistics and vendor management.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent and effective communication skills to establish, maintain and improve relationships with suppliersGood people skills.
