Purchasing AgentPosition Overview:The Purchasing Agent oversees the procurement of raw materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for steel mill equipment manufacturing operations. This role often negotiates contracts, manages supplier relationships & ensures timely delivery of materials while maintaining cost efficiency & quality. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, negotiation abilities, and an understanding of the manufacturing industry. Previous experience in a machine shop would be a big benefit to succeeding in this role.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Sourcing & Procurement:Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective supply of materials.Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.Understand ordering and production lead times to ensure ontime delivery to AmeriFabSupplier Management:Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers.Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or cost to avoid disruptions to production.Build and maintain a network of suppliers establishing measures for relationships leading to consistent, cost-effective, and nimble supply chains.Inventory Management:Collaborate with production and accounting to manage inventory levels and ensure the availability of materials.Implement inventory control systems to optimize stock levels and reduce waste.Cost Management:Analyze market trends to anticipate changes in supply and pricing.Continuously seek ways to reduce procurement costs while maintaining quality standards.Compliance and Risk Management:Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.Experience:Minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing or procurement within a manufacturing environmentProven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost management.Skills:Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational skillsExcellent negotiation and communication skills.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Exposure to lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma.Work Environment:This position is typically based in an office setting but may require occasional travel to supplier sites and manufacturing facilities.Work across departments to ensure machined parts are ordered correctly and delivered on time to shop for production.Application Process:Interested candidates are invited to submit their resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications and experience relevant to this role.
