The Information Technology Department:

The City of Jacksonville Employees are becoming more and more dependent on the services offered by the Information Technology Services department. The goal of the ITS department is to ensure that the network and all operations are fully functional for the use of all citizens and employees at all times. The City of Jacksonville uses many different programs to facilitate all the City does for the citizens and its employees. It is the duty of the ITS department to train and assist all users in these programs.

General Description:

The City of Jacksonville is seeking an energetic and passionate IT Support Specialist. The ideal candidate has customer service as part of their core and a willingness to ensure that our customers get world-class service. They will also have a deep interest in all things IT with background and understanding of how to solve basic IT related issues such as installing and troubleshooting hardware, software, and peripherals. The IT Support Specialist performs intermediate technical work troubleshooting user problems, installing and maintaining hardware, software and peripheral equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $47,645.52

- $61,939.18 depending on qualifications.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Providing support to users; troubleshooting user problems; providing customer service assistance; preparing records and files.(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Answers calls to the help desk.Troubleshoots basic help desk calls via the telephone.Enters trouble calls, emails into Helpstar program in order to maintain the database.Assists users in resolving tier one software, network and hardware problems in a timely and courteous manner.Coordinates with users on planned outages and other service interruptions.Diagnoses and corrects first line PC operating systems, application programming and peripheral hardware problems.Escalates problems that cannot be resolved to appropriate second tier support staff.Maintains equipment, training, fixed assets and other pertinent information in Helpstar system.Assists with hardware repair and replacement as needed.Creates, maintains and terminates accounts in HTE, VOIP, Windows and Badging systems.Maintains and coordinates check out system of laptops and projectors; maintains checkout calendar.Installs new software and hardware.Assists with cellular phones and blackberry phones.Performs related tasks as required.

Required Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in computer science, information technology or related field and 6 months to 2 years experience in the use and operation of computer operating systems.

Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the state of North Carolina.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of personal computer and office automation systems, software and programs; general knowledge of the principles and practices in the preparation of personal computer programs; skill in the use of software operating systems; ability to understand and follow written or oral procedures and instructions; ability to analyze software programs and make program adjustments; ability to train users of office automation hardware and software systems; skill in the operation of personal computer equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
