Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time (16-24 hours per week on a rotating schedule) following the 10-month calendar school year. SUMMERS OFF!

The school nurse assumes the role of provider of student health care, planner and coordinator of the school health program at assigned school(s), functioning independently and demonstrating autonomy in decision-making and practice.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Provides illness, injury assessment, planning, interventions and follow-up * Provides identification, assessment, planning, interviewing and evaluation of student health concerns * Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students * Facilitates health promotion and disease prevention education and activities in the school setting * Provides case management for students with complex health needs * Initiates referrals to parents, school staff and, community, and facilitates follow-up for secured care * Serves as liaison between school/home and communities

Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation. Minimum of 3 years nursing experience. Experience in school health, public health, home health, emergency department or pediatrics preferred.

License: A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Current CPR certification.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

* General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs * Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health, working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare, working knowledge of available resources and organizations * Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions * Accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions * Some ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of others
