Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room Job Specialty: ER RN - 1st Floor Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER Experience License: License to submit Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (3 hours Stroke), 8 hours of Stroke education (Preferred TNCC) Must-Have: Triage experience, comfortable with titrating all critical drips, able to provide conscious sedation for bedside procedures and/or pain management Job Description: - Department: ER | RN- Trauma Level II, Stroke, and STEMI Certified- 65 Bays divided into zones (A, B, C, D, & E), staff rotated through each zone- Fast Track: 10 Chairs, staffed by 2 attendings and 1 RN- Separate Triage area close to the waiting room, 3-4 Triage RNs; triage experience required- ER Hold Patients throughout the ER with assistance from ERG nurses; ER RNs may be assigned hold patients- No separate Psych rooms; Psych patients transferred to another campus- 24/7 in-house security- Approx. 118,000 patients treated per year- Nurse: Patient Ratios vary from 1:4-8 depending on patient acuity, census, and staffing- Common Diagnoses: Adults and Peds; DM, Asthma, Resp Issues, COVID, Chest Pain, STEMI, CVA, Stokes, Psych, Trauma- ED Staffing: 1-2 Attendings, 3-4 RNs, and 1 PCT per zone; primary care nursing duties required- Charge Nurse: 1 Charge and 1 Manager available 24/7- Phlebotomy, 12 Lead EKGs, vital signs, POCT, and patient care duties required- RT presence in-house 24/7; available by call- RN expected to help monitor and maintain RT Equipment- No Monitor Tech; RNs to read and interpret their own telemetry- X-Ray and CT available on the same floor; RNs to assist in transporting unstable patients- RN to draw labs upon IV access, with PCTs doing redraws- Scheduling: RN Shifts are 7-7:30, 12-12:30; PCT Shifts vary; flexible scheduling with potential block scheduling considered- Weekend and Holiday requirements: Every Other Weekend, may cover extra weekends and assigned in holiday rotation- Scrub Color: Royal Blue- Unit Specific Orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor, plus classroom orientation Additional Responsibilities: - Collaboration with team members in zone- Active participation in daily huddles prepared and punctual- Assigned to fill gaps in staffing as per management needsFlexible and adaptive candidates are preferred for this fast-paced and dynamic role.
