In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.Federal Work Study student may apply.In good disciplinary standing.Must be located in the U.S.For complete program details, please go to our website: www.berklee.edu/se.The Berklee Jazz Composer's Workshop (BJCWO) Audio Engineer is responsible for recording rehearsals of the Berklee Jazz Composers Workshop Orchestra, and providing rough mixes for the ensemble's composers. This position offers hands-on experience in live sound recording, mixing, and producing for a large ensemble setting, ideal for students looking to build their audio engineering portfolio. The Engineer will be expected to be at all BJCWO rehearsals which take place Tuesdays from 2pm to 4 pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and break down recording equipment (microphones, cables, audio interfaces, etc.) for all Jazz Composers Workshop Orchestra rehearsals.Record all rehearsals, ensuring high-quality audio capture and smooth operation of equipment.Mix and edit rehearsal recordings to provide clear reference tracks for the ensemble and the composers.Work closely with the director and ensemble members to meet their audio needs during and after rehearsals.Maintain and troubleshoot recording equipment as necessary, ensuring all gear is in working order.Manage and organize recorded files for easy access and distribution to the department and ensemble members.Provide support with live sound when needed during rehearsals or performances.Requirements:
Current Berklee student with a focus in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or related field.Proficiency in audio recording equipment and software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live).Access to recording equipment is required (at least a stereo pair, interface and recording software)Experience recording large ensembles or live performances.Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.Availability to attend all Jazz Composers Workshop Orchestra rehearsals (schedule provided in advance).Preferred Skills:
Experience mixing and editing audio for jazz or other large ensemble performances.Familiarity with Berklee's recording spaces and audio equipment.Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
