ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Accounting and Finance team and will report to the Director of Accounting. This role will be based out of our headquarters in San Diego, CA and travel to Templeton, IA as needed to support the Templeton Distillery team. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing a variety of day-to-day accounting transactions and processes as well as month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes. This role is responsible for reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory costings, performing financial statement analyses and other special accounting/finance projects, and providing coaching and oversight to AR and AP team members as needed.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about managing accounting team members while also being comfortable presenting the data to all stakeholders. We are seeking a team player that can handle complex projects and follow through with a clear focus on the business’s needs. They will possess critical competencies in organizing, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, communications, and results orientation. They will also have an outlook that will have a positive impact on those around them.
THE DAY TO DAY
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities including, but not limited to the following: revenue, cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, investments, accrued liabilities, debt, intercompany, inventory, payroll, fixed assets, depletion allowances, broker commissions, landed cost, purchase price variances (PPV), freight, excise tax, and other accounting transactions, as needed.
- Ensure the accounting records and reports are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review journal entries by target due dates. Assist in the preparation of entries as needed.
- Ensure timely review and completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Assist in the preparation of reconciliations as needed.
- Participate in performing physical inventory counts as needed.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments in the organization on various projects, including supply chain, finance, sales, and marketing, including teams at Infinium Spirits and at Templeton Distillery.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of internal controls, policies and procedures.
- Ensure the timely completion of monthly close and management reporting including income statement and balance sheet analyses compared to prior periods and budget.
- Ensure the accuracy and timely completion of elimination entries.
- Manage the preparation, validation of analyses and support required for the annual GAAP audit and bank reporting requirements.
- Support the Director of Accounting, VP of Finance, and Company’s management with special projects and ad hoc requests.
- Build, train, mentor and develop accounting team direct report(s).

Education/License/Certification:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Active CPA license
- Required:
- 3 – 5 years of experience as an Accounting Manager
- 5 – 8 years of progressive accounting experience
- 3+ years of Inventory accounting experience; experience in spirits inventory costing strongly preferred
- 2+ years of public accounting experience
- Preferred:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Business Central accounting software
- Industry experience with 3 tier system and federal excise tax
- Industry experience with spirits and distilling
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the creation and manipulation of Pivot tables, V-/H-LOOKUP, and IF-THEN formula.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting applications.
- Ability to operate with a high level of energy and strong work ethic focused on outcomes.
- Ability to demonstrate good business sense, including the ability to correctly interpret financial information.
- Must have personal honesty and integrity.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required.
- Highly detailed oriented and organized in work.
- Self-motivated and resourceful.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance.
- Ability to think conceptually, flexibly, strategically and make sound business decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written; capable of managing difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated people skills necessary to coordinate the flow of information to and from staff who possess varying levels of experience.
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $130,000 – $140,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
