Civil/Structural Engineer Job Description at EnergySolutions (12 month contract)
Location: Middletown, PA

Company Overview: EnergySolutions is a leading provider of nuclear services, specializing in the safe decommissioning of nuclear power plants. Our team at Three Mile Island (TMI) is dedicated to managing the decommissioning of TMI-2 and the potential restart of TMI-1, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified Civil/Structural Engineer with nuclear experience to join our team. The engineer will be responsible for supporting the decommissioning activities, modifications for new processes and equipment, and system reviews at the TMI-2 site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct structural assessments of existing facilities to determine the impact of decommissioning activities.
- Develop engineering plans and specifications for dismantling and demolition projects.
- Oversee the construction of temporary structures and infrastructure required for decommissioning.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards for all civil and structural engineering activities.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to coordinate multidisciplinary project activities.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory compliance and project tracking.
- Engage in a lot of independent work, demonstrating self-starter qualities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil or structural engineering within the nuclear industry.
- Experience with standard design processes and NRC regulations (including 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting field work, including troubleshooting, inspections, and making critical decisions on-site, is essential.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to be badged.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions based on field experience.
- Ability to work on-site heavily as required, with potential hybrid flexibility.
- Desired Skills:
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software tools (e.g., MathCAD, AutoCAD).
- Strong respect for design basis, documentation, and licensing documents.
- Ability to react to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Additional Information:
- Work schedule is 4-10's (four 10-hour days per week).
