Job Summary:
The Speech and Language Therapist has many responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:
A. Planning and Preparation Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the Speech Pathologist's therapy Establishes goals for the therapy program appropriate to the setting and the students Demonstrates knowledge of district, state and federal regulations and guidelines Demonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district Plans the therapy program, integrates with the regular school program, to meet the needs of individual students B. Classroom/Therapeutic Environment
Establishes rapport with students Organizes time effectively Establishes standards of conduct in the treatment center Organizes physical space for testing of students and providing therapy C. Instruction
Establishes and maintaining clear procedures for referrals Responds to referrals, and evaluating student needs Develops and implements treatment plans to maximize students' success Communicates with families Collects information; writing reports Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness D. Professional Responsibilities & Personal Qualities
Reflects on practice Collaborates with teachers and administrators Maintains effective data management system Participates in a professional community Engages in professional development Shows professionalism, including integrity, advocacy, and maintaining confidentiality
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with proper endorsement(s) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decision regarding the safety and welfare of students Appreciation of cultural diversity Ability to effectively incorporate instructional technology Spanish proficiency not required but highly desired
Working Conditions: Per NSEA salary schedule (Collective Bargaining Agreement) for the 2025-2026 school year, excellent benefits, TRS Retirement Pension Service Credit, paid sick, personal, bereavement leave, and other benefits.
