Job Summary Provide the full scope of primary care services which fall under his/her field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance to patients of all ages. In addition, a Primary Care Physician is a member of the NWMH team. In that capacity they are expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the organization and work collaboratively to achieve them. They must be cognizant of, and comply with, all policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations. They must be cognizant of, and comply with, all policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other assignments, projects, and duties may be required: Obtain health history and perform physical examinations. Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment. Prescribe medication in accordance with Oregon statute and professional practice guidelines. Perform minor surgical procedures. Arrange referral for patients requiring services not offered at NWMH. Review incoming reports (e.g., lab, x-ray, EKG) sign, date and follow-up in a timely manner. Comply with the NWMH Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff. Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings. Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested. Assist in outside medical public relations functions. Adhere to NWMHs productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises students in training at NWMH as assigned by the Medical Director. Supervises mid-level practitioners (physician assistants and nurse practitioners). Supervises support staff and ensures the are providing safe and effective care (medical assistants or patient services staff). Qualifications Current Oregon State Medical License Current D.E.A. Certificate Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine. If Board Eligible at the time of hire, must be Board Certified within 3 years of hire date. Insurability (malpractice) Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) ACLS or Advanced Life Support within 12 months of employment, if appropriate Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Job Knowledge / Technical Skills- Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population. Correctly prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Reaction to Stress - Can be depended upon when deadline pressures intensify, able to remain calm and effective despite irritation or changes in plans and policies, rarely loses temper, shows good frustration tolerance, able to handle irate people. Problem Solving - Troubleshoots, quick insight and able to learn, handles complex assignments, analytical, gets to the point. Creativity - Innovative, generates original solutions, develops new options, and suggests improvements, willing to try new concepts. Decisiveness - Willingness to make decisions, makes appropriate decisions, asks questions when needed. Hygiene - Clothing appropriate to work (IE: work clothes, uniform, etc.). Comes to work clean, no offensive odors, appears healthy and clear-eyed - not flushed or pale, alert, physically capable (IE: clear speech, awake).
