POSITION SUMMARY:
As member of the External Affairs Team, the Organizing & Outreach Manager oversees community engagement initiatives across the state and manages Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts’ (PPLM) community organizers and outreach specialists. This position promotes PPLM’s health services and educational programs, as well as advances Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts’ organizing and electoral work. With a commitment to addressing the impact of racism and other oppressions on sexual health, this role will develop relationships with community leaders and serve as one of the organization's liaisons with various constituents through attendance at community events and coalition meetings. Working with the Director of Public Affairs, the Organizing & Outreach Manager will identify and evaluate strategic relationships, new service delivery models, geographic expansion opportunities, and assist in running our electoral program. Additionally, this individual will have the management responsibility of the Outreach & Organizing Team and is responsible for providing guidance, growth, and direction to team members across the state. Note: Evening and weekend hours required Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the Community Organizers and Outreach Specialists to build structure and goals around the outreach and organizing programs across the state, including efforts establishing and sustaining contraceptive access points, facilitating the electoral endorsement process, and coalition engagement. Manage PPLM’s electoral program including state and municipal endorsements, field program, and voter engagement programs. Proactively develop relationships with community partners to provide information about PPLM services and strategize opportunities for reciprocal/equitable collaboration. Manage programmatic outcomes and functions for Patient Advocacy including the Speakers Bureau, Black Organizing, Youth Organizing (Generation Action), Latinx Organizing (Raíz), and State Fights (PACE) programs through the development and submission of grant proposals, workplans, budgets and reports within established deadlines. Manage coalition partner engagement and volunteer mobilization with regional organizers that furthers PPAF’s legislative and electoral goals working closely with the Communications and Marketing team. Collaborate with the Director of Public Affairs to supervise and lead electoral programming with the regional organizers to include canvassing, phone banking, engaging with electoral volunteers and supporters, and working with the communications and marketing team on digital organizing efforts. Manage C4 data and serve as the affiliate data manager. Participate in and provide managerial guidance for PPLM’s Strategic Health Equity Initiatives. Collaborate with operations, clinical, and finance team members to develop referral partnerships and off-site care delivery models such as telehealth access points, contraceptive access points, Memoranda of Understanding for colleges and universities, and cross provider referral systems. Work in partnership with Health Services and External Affairs to identify cross-departmental opportunities for community outreach and relationship building. Travel to PPLM sites located in Boston, Worcester and Springfield for meetings as well as community outreach sites as needed; occasional evenings and weekend hours required. Qualifications:
Prior experience in and knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Experienced community organizer working with intergenerational, multicultural, and multiracial groups as well as LGBTQIA+ people and people with disabilities. Experienced organizer in electoral systems and political campaigns. Deep understanding of institutional and structural racism and their impact on underserved communities; lived experience preferred. BA/BS preferred. Spanish language (written and spoken) a plus. 3-5 years of managerial experience. Access to reliable transportation and the ability and willingness to travel to workshops, meetings, and training sites as needed; Massachusetts residency preferred. Experience with recruiting and training volunteers. Demonstrated program management skills, including a program’s budget, grant management and reporting. Familiarity with relevant community organizations/agencies such as LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, state agencies related to healthcare, non-electoral c3 organizations. Strong public speaking skills. Ability to work independently while committed to an overall team approach. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications. What We Offer:
