Overview
The Project Engineer Technologist is responsible for the project engineering designs of Quarterhill tolling and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions and providing support to the project team for the implementation, delivery, and commissioning of these solutions in accordance with Quarterhill standard procedures.
Responsibilities
Project Design
- Develop engineering designs of systems comprised of electrical/electronic/mechanical components, sensors, and communications to meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Produce project documentation including system definitions, site layout and construction drawings, power wiring, site termination drawings, project bills of materials, and equipment installation drawings for tolling and ITS solutions.
- Produce design narrative content that describes, at a high level, all aspects of the engineering design for design documentation submittals.
Project Support
- Support the tolling and ITS solutions team with estimates and preliminary designs for proposals.
- Perform reviews of customer project requirement specifications.
- Support Project Managers in meeting project schedules for engineering work and material budgets.
- Perform field surveys, support installation, integration, and commissioning of project and R&D activities.
- Support the CAD development of working plans, drawings, and complete layouts of electrical, civil, and mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
- Provide support for Purchasing, Manufacturing, Product Development, and Systems Engineering from component selection and procurement through equipment assembly and system configuration/testing.
- Support the operations and maintenance of customer systems.
Customer Engagement
- Travel to customer sites to assess project facilities, support installation activities, and commission projects as necessary.
- Attend virtual and on-site customer project meetings, participate in customer project design workshops, and present to the customer the project engineering designs.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology (BSET) degree such as Electronic Systems Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Be a cooperative problem-solver with logical decision-making abilities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate working with team members in different time zones.
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary team environment is preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with MS Office 365 and standard CAD software.
- Experience with construction, Lean, and ISO 9001 quality systems is beneficial.
- Aptitude for hands-on or physical systems will be an asset.
- Self-starter with the ability to work well independently and within a team environment with diverse individuals in a complex and evolving environment.
