Frontgrade Technologies is seeking a motivated Hardware Engineering co-op student (junior year) to join our Digital Hardware Design team. This opportunity is ideal for students looking to develop practical experience in board-level design, schematic development, and system integration for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. You will work alongside experienced engineers and gain exposure to the processes, tools, and technologies used in the development of high-reliability electronics for extreme environments.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with schematic capture, component selection, and design documentation for high-reliability digital boards
- Support hardware bring-up, lab testing, and design validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power instrumentation
- Collaborate with embedded software, firmware, and manufacturing teams to support system integration
- Help document test procedures, results, and configuration data to support design reviews and manufacturing readiness
- Contribute to debug activities by analyzing hardware behavior and supporting failure root cause analysis
- Gain exposure to high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., PCIe, DDR, Ethernet), signal integrity practices, and hardware/software co-verification
- Work with senior engineers to support simulations or constraint development for high-performance designs
- Participate in design and peer reviews, learning best practices in aerospace-grade development workflows
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- High School diplmoa
- Currently enrolled in a B.S. program in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Junior standing by the time of the co-op (3rd year of a 4- or 5-year program)
- Strong academic background or project experience in digital logic design, circuit theory, or computer hardware
- Exposure to schematic capture tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar) is a plus
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and logic analyzers
- Interest in high-speed digital design and system-level integration
- Willingness to learn from experienced engineers and contribute to real-world product development
- This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by either ITAR or EAR U.S. export laws. As a condition to this job offer, in order to be employed in this position, you must be able to obtain an U.S. Government export license(s), as required by law.
- Pay Range: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
