The Shell team's mission is to deliver a system platform that enables developers to build rich spatial experiences and applications on top of the core Android operating system. As a central component at the heart of the system, Shell interacts at multiple levels with applications - from lifecycle to window management and everything in between.
We are building a system with a rich user experience that combines 2D and 3D elements in the system Shell and are looking for an engineering manager to help us build key capabilities to expand the experience and build APIs and frameworks for internal and external developers. A successful candidate in this role is proactive, has experience communicating with multiple partners, and experience driving projects successfully across multiple teams working on different areas of a product stack.
Software Engineering Manager - Shell Responsibilities
- Manage engineering teams by mentoring, empowering their growth, and helping them deliver impact.
- Champion engineering and operational experience, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement.
- Communicate cross-functionally across various teams, organizations and internal and external stakeholders to drive engineering efforts.
- Use in-depth technical understanding and cross-functional relationships to successfully set long and short term directional goals, aspirational engineering goals, and intermediate milestones.
- Use influence and cross-functional relationships to drive progress on goals.
- Recruit engineers, identifying talent gaps and the people required to fill them.
- Create career development plans, manage performance and performance reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience managing engineers.
- 10+ years of work experience developing and launching software products.
- Experience leading development teams shipping software products through multiple releases.
- Experience solving complex gameplay and UX problems in 3D interactive products or AAA games.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Unreal and/or Unity.
- Experience building platforms or frameworks in the OS layer.
- Experience with Android development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or similar field.
$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
