Job Overview:
Responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing production tooling and fixtures for secondary trim operations. Mold makers usually work regular business hours and spend much of their time in factories, with long hours spent on their feet. Additionally, there are a lot of repetitive motions associated with this job, such as twisting or turning, in an environment with potentially distracting noise levels. This job is well suited to people who are technically and mechanically skilled, have strong math skills, enjoy problem-solving, and have good communication skills to liaise with design teams and colleagues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review prints and plan the building/repairing of molds/fixtures.
- Build, modify and repair tooling and trim fixtures as required.
- Weld using both MIG and TIG.
- Use various machinery and equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, press brakes, shears, iron workers, and band saws.
- Sandblast as needed.
- Inspect damaged or defective tooling, fixtures, and parts to determine/plan corrective action.
- Inspect products and select the correct shop equipment, precision measurement devices, and other tools needed for a job.
- Train personnel on the use of new molds or trim fixtures built.
- Hand trim samples/prototype parts as required.
- Perform simple woodworking/constructing simple wood forms/fixtures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- 1 year of welding experience required.
- Basic machining skills preferred.
- Basic print reading required.
- Able to weld aluminum and steel.
- Operate basic equipment such as press brake, lathe, shear, band saws, and a variety of basic metal and woodworking hand tools.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to be forklift certified.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in a hot, humid environment for extended periods of time.
- Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, lift, and pull molds that could weigh 45+ lbs.
- Must be able to stand for the majority of the shift.
- Must be able to sit, climb, kneel, crouch, and walk when required.
