Overview
The Vice President, Data & AI Governance and Risk, a deputy to the Credit Union's Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for developing and leading the governance framework for data management and artificial intelligence (AI) risk within the credit union. This role helps ensure that data integrity, security, privacy, and AI-driven decision-making align with regulatory requirements, ethical guidelines, and industry leading practices. The VP collaborates with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Risk, business units, IT, and Compliance teams to integrate data and AI risk management into enterprise-wide strategies, ensuring responsible innovation while mitigating potential risks. The VP will also lead creation of KRIs and risk analytics/metrics across all risk vectors in coordination with the CRO.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a data governance framework that help ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security across the organization. Establish AI governance policies to oversee the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) technologies. Define and enforce data ownership, stewardship, and accountability structures across business units. Collaborate with enterprise risk, compliance, and operational risk teams to align data and AI risk management with broader risk strategies. Develop risk appetite and tolerance statements related to data and AI governance. Helps ensure compliance with NCUA, FFIEC, GDPR, CCPA, and other regulatory requirements related to data privacy, security, and AI use. Monitor emerging regulatory changes impacting AI, machine learning, and data management, adjusting policies as needed. Helps controls design to mitigate risks related to data breaches, bias in AI models, algorithmic transparency, and data ethics. Conduct regular data risk assessments, identifying vulnerabilities in data handling, usage, and AI-driven decision-making. With the CRO and other Risk leaders, help establish a Model Risk Management (MRM) framework to help ensure that models are explainable, auditable, and fair. Partner with Data and IT teams to implement AI risk assessment methodologies, helping ensure responsible AI deployment. Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) to monitor all Enterprise risks and AI performance, data drift, and bias in decision-making processes. Ensure third-party AI/Data vendors and algorithms comply with internal governance and risk management policies. Work with IT and cybersecurity teams to guide their implementation of data protection strategies, including data encryption, access controls, and secure data sharing. Help oversee privacy risk assessments to safeguard member information and prevent data misuse. Promote ethical AI principles, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in AI-driven processes. Lead cross-functional initiatives to embed data and AI governance into business operations and strategic decision-making. Help with training and awareness programs on data risk, AI ethics, and regulatory compliance for employees and leadership. Present risk insights and governance updates to the Board, Risk Committees, and Executive Leadership. Expertise in data governance, AI risk assessment, and regulatory compliance frameworks. Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills with the ability to influence executive leadership and Board members. Proficiency in risk management software, AI governance tools, and data analytics platforms. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess AI and data risks, recommend controls, and enhance governance frameworks. Understand and comply with all applicable federal and state laws and banking regulations (including those related to OFAC and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering compliance) and Patelco Credit Union's policies and procedures. Excellent attention to detail, communication and presentation skills to convey complex data and AI risk concepts to stakeholders. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Risk Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). 12+ years of experience in data governance, AI risk management, regulatory compliance, or enterprise risk management, preferably in financial services. Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, data security, and regulatory frameworks governing data privacy and AI ethics. Experience with risk assessment frameworks, AI model governance, and cybersecurity risk management. Preferred Certifications: Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) AI Governance & Ethics Certification (e.g., MIT AI Governance, CPMAI) This role is based in Dublin HQ Target Base Pay
$240,000 - $255,000/year
