SOUND Behavioral Health is growing, and we are hiring a WISe parent peer partner in Seattle. SOUND is one of King County’s most comprehensive providers of mental health and addiction treatment services, supporting vulnerable populations. Our work is based on the evidence-based clinical care model, Reaching Recovery.
Must be a parent or caregiver of a child/youth involved in the systems of care, such as DSHS, DCYF, special education, DDA, or juvenile court.
Keywords include: therapists, therapy, counselors, counseling, social work, case management.
The parent partner provides advocacy, support, and team involvement to parents/caregivers. Responsibilities include promoting self-determination, independence, skill-building, empowerment, and navigating systems like IEPs, juvenile justice, DDD, DSHS, and community resources. The role involves resource linkage, attending meetings, and engaging in forums and workgroups to improve practices.
Scheduling: Mobile services across King County with flexible hours, including nights and weekends. The role requires cultural sensitivity and accommodating diverse community needs.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Engage parents/caregivers through support, education, and empowerment from intake to case closure, acting as a liaison with treatment teams.
- Encourage family engagement with team members to foster understanding and positive interactions.
- Identify natural supports and develop individualized family goals.
- Empower self-advocacy, ensuring parent voice and choice in services and meetings.
- Collaborate with treatment teams to engage parents in solutions and support family participation.
- Mentor parents, bridging families and treatment teams in the best interests of the child/youth.
- Connect families to resources at local, state, and national levels.
- Model effective communication and collaboration skills in a family-centered approach.
- Support families in navigating gaps between their needs and therapeutic interests.
- Participate in treatment teams, providing support and consultation.
- Refer families to formal and informal supports and resources.
- Support parents in understanding and negotiating systems and resources.
- Facilitate parent mentorship and advocate within multi-system settings.
- Attend meetings and community events, including retreats and picnics.
- Contribute to process improvements and model non-adversarial advocacy skills.
- Assist with legislative advocacy efforts and understanding recovery concepts in behavioral health.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be a parent or caregiver involved in systems of care (e.g., DSHS, DCYF, special education, DDA, juvenile court).
- Experience with emotionally disturbed children/youth.
- Deep understanding of the parent/caregiver perspective and advocacy experience.
- GED or high school diploma, or actively pursuing.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Washington State Peer Counselor Certification required.
- WA State Agency Affiliated Counselor credential required.
- Driver’s license and insurable driving record preferred.
- Criminal background checks required.

Compensation ranges from $24.78 to $26.04 per hour.
