260 Day Contract Salary Range: $94,556-$105,903 Vacation & Benefits Eligible
DEFINITION: The athletic director is responsible for implementing the athletic and activity program for the district.
MAJOR POLICY RESPONSIBILITY: The general responsibility of the athletic director is to implement the athletic program and activity program. The athletic director communicates effectively with building and central office administration in advance of making changes in program or procedures.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
A. VISION, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, AND FOCUS OF DISTRICT WORK: The Director of Athletics/Activities shall establish a vision, expect continuous improvement, and show marked leadership that supports the wide variety of sports and activities in which students participate; in the facilities and equipment they use; in the financial support of the community; and in the successful integration of athletics and extra-curricular activities with academic endeavors to that both are enhanced. Representative Elements:
Be of service to all coaches, helping them to implement their program, keeping them informed, and helping them grow professionally. Set a positive example demonstrating enthusiasm and a cooperative spirit with administration, coaches, community residents, and students. Shall openly display emotional stability and self-control in difficult situations. Continuously strive toward the highest standards of personal conduct. Research and aid in developing athletic facility needs. Assist in securing partnerships for Wooster City Schools and the athletic programs. Perform other duties as assigned by Wooster High School Principal.
B. COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION: The Director of Athletics/Activities recognizes the importance of the strong need for organization which is reflected in the efficiency of the scheduling of people, facilities, equipment and students.
Representative Elements: Continue to develop and update the master schedule for the use of game facilities and practice areas. Responsible to post all activities in the general school calendar. Serve as chairman of the WHS athletic council and coordinate the coaches at Edgewood Middle School with the Middle School Athletic Director and Middle School Principal, calling regular meetings, developing an agenda, and keeping appropriate records. Communicate effectively and work closely with athletic booster groups and parents, publicize athletic events, arrange for athletic banquets and other athletic functions. Assist the building principal in maintaining effective communication records and relationships with the league(s) and the OHSAA. Assist in the communication between students and staff. Communicate effectively with stakeholders. Coordinate coverage for all home events and away football and basketball games. Secure game workers, clock operator, announcers and statisticians. Perform other duties as assigned by Wooster High School Principal.
C. POLICIES AND GOVERNANCE: The Director of Athletics/Activities will help to identify, prioritize, recommend, and follow policies and governance procedures that maintain a focus on the central goal —/4iss/on Statement. The Director of Athletics values the importance of an effective working relationship with students, staff and stakeholders.
Representative Elements: Coordinates the development and periodic review of the written philosophy and objectives, policies, and procedures of the athletic program. In addition, mentors the coaches so that they know these athletic guidelines. Integrate program and activities outcomes with academic outcomes. Perform other duties as assigned by Wooster High School Principal.
D. INSTRUCTION: The Director of Athletics/Activities focuses on the empowering of people to enhance the ability to manage a wide scope of responsibilities.
Representative Elements: Oversee Gault Recreation Center staff. Develop and apply systems to gain efficiencies and enable staff.
