Job Title: Accounting Manager

Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and reporting functions for the manufacturing company. This role ensures that the financial records are accurate and in compliance with both internal policies and external regulations. The Accounting Manager will lead a team of accounting professionals, work closely with other departments, and support management in financial decision-making processes by providing timely and accurate financial data.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management and Reporting:

    • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and documented.
    • Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads.
    • Monitor budget variances and provide timely analysis and recommendations for cost optimization.
    • Assist in the development of long-term financial strategies to support company growth and profitability.
  3. Cost Accounting:

    • Oversee cost accounting processes, including standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
    • Analyze production costs, material costs, and overhead allocations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
    • Work closely with operations and production teams to understand cost drivers and implement cost control measures.
  4. Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
    • Support external auditors during the annual audit process and provide documentation as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  5. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Supervise and mentor a team of accounting staff, providing guidance and support to foster professional growth.
    • Coordinate training programs to ensure the team is up-to-date on accounting principles, policies, and software.
  6. Financial Analysis and Decision Support:

    • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to management for decision-making.
    • Develop and present financial reports to senior management to support strategic initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to increase efficiency.
  7. Systems and Process Improvement:

    • Optimize accounting processes and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Lead the implementation of new accounting software or ERP systems as needed.
    • Collaborate with IT and other departments to integrate financial systems with other business systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Manufacturing industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
    • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Competencies: Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, adaptability, and strategic thinking.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily an office-based position with occasional visits to production sites as needed.
  • May require additional hours during peak periods such as month-end or year-end closings.
