Position Summary

The Director of Psychology Student Training (Director) provides strategic direction, leadership, operational planning, and supervisory oversight for the training of all psychology students in the Cook County Health (CCH), Ambulatory & Community Health Network (ACHN) clinical sites and hospital settings. This Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of psychology training programs remaining in compliance with academic guidelines, professional regulations, and ethical standards.

The Director provides outpatient psychological services in Adult and/or Pediatric Psychiatry clinic settings, including initial intake evaluations, follow-up individual and family therapy, psychological testing and consultation liaison services to the medical inpatient units.

The Director reports directly to the Chief Psychologist and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry

Typical Duties

* Leads and manages day-to-day operations and strategic development for psychology student training program

*

Identifies, develops, implements, and evaluates process and performance improvement plans related to the provision of student training

* Provides supervision for psychology staff throughout the training of psychology students

* Maintains an active clinical load of 70% and 30% administrative responsibilities

* Participates in the candidate review, candidate interview, onboarding, and orientation activities for all psychology student candidates

* Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with regional APA-accredited academic institutions that offer doctoral degrees in clinical and/or counseling psychology

* Applies for accreditation and maintains standards of accreditation in training psychology students when required

* Develops established benchmarks for quality and performance in collaboration with operational leaders

* Works in collaboration with the Chief Psychologist, other clinical practice leaders, behavior health staff and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to ensure quality training experiences for students while assuring quality standards of excellence for patient care provided by students in training

* Develops and manages student training policies, procedures and training as required to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies

* Evaluates student performance and conducts corrective action, as appropriate.

* Oversees and ensures staff competency validation and education are current and appropriate to participate in student training supervision

* Tracks clinical performance indicators of trainees and develops action plans when required

Minimum Qualifications

*

Doctoral degree in Clinical and/or Counseling Psychology from an accredited college or university

* Completion of a Pre-doctoral Psychology internship training program from an APA accredited internship program

* Licensed Psychologist in the State of Illinois prior to starting employment

* Five (5) years of clinical psychology experience

* Three (3) years of experience providing clinical supervision to psychology students

Preferred Qualifications

*

Prior work or training experience for one year or more in a medical hospital

* Prior experience directing a clinical or training program

* Familiarity in training requirements for psychology students

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

*

Knowledge and expertise in clinical supervision

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups

* Analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/ resolution skills

* Ability to multi-task and be effective and efficient in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment

* Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices

* Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged

* Ability to provide clear and concise documentation regarding patient care as well as student performance and to maintain this information in a confidential manner.

Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois MD license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
