Transportation Engineer II

position. This position is open to anyone who meets the

qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.Nature of work:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve in a construction engineering support capacity. The Transportation Engineer will assist the Change Order and Claims Teams and the Division Chief with reviewing, analyzing, and processing all statewide Construction Change Orders, Prior Approvals, and Administrator Memorandums for completeness and accuracy and resolve problems as they are discovered. This will include communicating with SHA District construction staff and integrating these items into the eConstruction platforms. This role may also assist with reviewing, analyzing, and processing all statewide Construction Contract Claim submittals for correct format and completeness, determine the basis for the claim in compliance with contract specifications/provisions and COMAR regulations/laws, and justify whether compensation should be provided to the contractors. The Transportation Engineer may also be a centralized liaison for SHA District staff working on construction project audits and closeouts. The incumbent may also review construction contract documents (constructability reviews), such as invitations for bids and plans, on contracts from pre-advertisement to post-advertisement, as well as redlines. Additionally, the Transportation Engineer may participate in SHA standard and specification updates.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience in professional engineering.

Preferred Qualification:The ideal candidate should have the following:

Self-motivation with the ability to work independentlyKnowledge of engineering and construction principles, practices, and proceduresKnowledge of contract specifications and provisionsExcellent internal/external customer service abilities and interpersonal skillsGood written and oral communication skillsProficient computer skills, including comprehensive experience using Microsoft SuiteProblem solving and decision-making abilitiesWorking knowledge of Construction Claims Analysis, Construction Change Orders, and writing/revising/interpreting specificationsNotes:1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for the required experience.3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements. Candidates must possess a driver’s license valid in the state of Maryland.Special Requirements:
