program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a

Consumer Products Implementation Communications Consultant (Communications Consultant 3)

position.

This position is located in our

Headquarters Office

in

Lacey, WA.

In this position, you’ll work with a variety of subject matter experts to help them explain complex, highly technical information to a diverse array of audiences. You’ll get to work with our consumer product compliance teams to help explain new regulations under these laws to manufacturers, small business owners, and others affected by and/or interested in them.

The mission of the HWTR Program is to protect Washington’s residents and environment by reducing the use of toxic chemicals, safely managing dangerous waste, preventing new contaminated sites, and cleaning up contamination. The HWTR vision is to be national leaders in minimizing and eliminating the impacts of toxic chemicals and hazardous waste.

Tele-work options for this position:

This position will have flexibility of a hybrid schedule, empowering work from home and office, providing less time in traffic and shrinking your carbon footprint. This position will be eligible for up to a 90% tele-work schedule. What makes this role unique?In this role, you’ll use your excellent communication skills to help a wide variety of audiences understand how to follow regulations enacted by laws like Safer Products for Washington and the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act. You’ll work with technical and regulatory experts to know what messages need to be communicated, recommend communication channels, and develop messaging that’s in plain language and accessible.

What you will do:

Collaborate with subject matter experts and communications staff to determine needs, methods, and techniques to publicize and promote compliance with consumer product regulations, engage public and community organizations, and resolve complex communication issues.

Collaborate with communications colleagues to develop, implement, and improve consumer product compliance communication plans.

Help identify Tribes, industries, government agencies, nonprofits, and other audiences that are impacted by these laws, work with the technical and regulatory team to determine how to effectively reach these audiences, and recommend strategies for ensuring these messages are communicated clearly.

Plan, develop, write, edit, review, and proofread publications, web content, presentations, email list messages, social media posts, and other materials for internal and external audiences to support compliance-related communication materials to manufacturers, and other interested parties.

Develop talking points that describe the compliance work and law parameters to communicate to internal and external stakeholders.

Assist with planning webinars and in-person stakeholder and interested parties meetings. Facilitate team planning or meetings, or work with a facilitator to provide meeting support. Ensure meetings are well planned to be productive, on time, inclusive, interactive, meet goals, and clearly communicate next steps.

Required Qualifications:A combined total of 6 years of experience and/or education in Journalism, public relations/information, news media, digital/social media, marketing, digital accessibility, writing/editing, or a related field.

Education in:

Journalism, communications, public relations, news media, digital/social media, English, marketing, humanities, or closely allied field.
