EXPECTED SALARY RANGE:

$60,000 – 70,000 plus the UVM Foundation’s progressive benefits package, which includes: a comprehensive health plan; dental, vision, and life insurance; a robust paid time off package; a 403(b) plan with immediate vesting and contributions; and tuition remission.

On-site. A limited hybrid arrangement may be possible, but frequent in-person presence will be required. This position will require regular work outside of standard business days and hours as well as frequent travel.

JOB SUMMARY:The Assistant Director of Leadership Giving has responsibility for discovering, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding donors for leadership gifts primarily in support of the Larner College of Medicine (LCOM), as well as building the LCOM pipeline for major gifts. A portion of the Assistant Director of Leadership Gifts also will be dedicated to the same activities in support of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS).

The Assistant Director of Leadership Giving reports to the Assistant Vice President for Development, Academic Health Sciences (AHS), and serves as a member of the University of Vermont Foundation (UVMF) staff and broader UVM AHS Team. The AHS Team is focused on fundraising for LCOM, CNHS, UVM Medical Center, UVM Children’s Hospital, and UVM Cancer Center.

The Assistant Director of Leadership Giving also must be committed to forging great working relationships and partnerships with key internal stakeholders and supporting ongoing initiatives to build stronger cultures of philanthropy at UVM, the UVMF, LCOM, CNHS, and AHS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Assistant Director of Leadership Giving is fully dedicated to fundamental gift officer work, with a strong emphasis on fundraising productivity and enterprising activities to identify, engage, and solicit LCOM and CNHS alumni and donors; deepen their relationships with UVM and their affinity for LCOM and CNHS; and move them along the donor continuum toward increased and sustained philanthropy. Overall, approximately 90 percent of this position will focus on LCOM, and 10 percent will focus on CNHS.

75% Proactively develop and manage a portfolio of individual donor prospects.

This includes as much as 15% of activities dedicated to outreach via email, phone, mail, and other channels to UVM alumni and prospective LCOM and CNHS leadership gift donors to request and secure personal visits for yourself and sometimes others, including the Deans for LCOM and CNHS, and the UVM President.

This also includes as much as 60% or more of activities dedicated to qualifying alumni and prospects for their capacity and affinity to make leadership gifts or greater in support of LCOM, CNHS or other areas of UVM; and then cultivating, soliciting, closing, and documenting these gifts.

10% Ensure effective collaboration with academic leadership across LCOM and CNHS, including with the Deans, LCOM and CNHS faculty and staff; UVMF and AHS colleagues in prospect management, annual giving, alumni relations, gift administration and gift records; and with other LCOM, CNHS, AHS and UVMF gift officers, all in support of outreach, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship gift officer work.

10% Execute targeted and strategic gift stewardship and relationship management activities, to include the Deans, UVM President, and other academic and UVMF leaders; and accurately document all prospect contact, gift work, relationship management, and stewardship activities in the UVMF prospect management database in a timely manner.

5% Other duties as assigned. Specific performance goals will be captured as metrics in an annual business plan.

MINIMUM SKILLS & ABILITIES

General knowledge of the principles and techniques of development and fundraising, sales, or similar customer-centered activities and work.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience in front-line fundraising. Demonstrated success working with individual donors and securing philanthropic investments in the four- and five-figure range.

Experience working in higher-education development and fundraising.

Understanding of the dynamics in academic medicine between education, clinical care, and research, and within complex university and health system structures.

Experience working in a customer-centered professional environment.

Experience/proficiency working in a relationship management database.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree.

At least one year of successful front-line fundraising experience and/or similar sales or customer-centered, professional experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities can be demonstrated.
