3100|Dean of StudentsResponsibilities:The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership (Student Organizations) works with all student organizations to facilitate their use of university resources and to empower students in their provision of services, programs, and activities that enhance the academic experience, extend learning, and build community here at UL. This is a new position designed to serve a rapidly increasing culture of student-initiated organizations, leadership opportunities, and communication needs.The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership exists to enhance the college experience by providing welcoming, intellectual and social opportunities that engage students in the life of the university. We do this by offering co-curricular opportunities that facilitate student development, self-governance, leadership, understanding, and citizenship in the community. The functional areas of this department, within the Division of Student Affairs, include student organizations, fraternities and sororities, the University Program Council, leadership programming, and university spirit squads.Key Responsibilities:Serve as the liaison between the OSEL (and other university offices) and student organizations.Develop departmental processes to enhance the student organization program.Coordinate usage and promotion of the communication platform used to manage organizations, all org events, and leadership pathways.Coordinate with student organizations for the recognition, renewal, training, and event management, including advising students in starting new organizations, developing and coordinating training resources for student organizations, and assisting with presenting workshops related to officer responsibilities.Review and manage the approval process for all requests for student organization events on campus.Train student organization leaders on effective event planning and execution.Coordinate and promote usage of spaces in the Organization Suite including the cubicle spaces, conference meeting room, and other resources.Develop resources (physical and online) to help student organization officers.Responsible, along with other department staff, for the overall promotion of the benefits of campus involvement in relation to student retention and success.Qualifications:Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degreeUndergraduate membership in college/university student organizations.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degreeSkills, Abilities, Etc.:Strong communication skills both written and oral.Presentation and training experience desired.Record of demonstrated success working with college students, developing student leaders, and advising student organizations.Understanding of and experience with a diverse population of college students.Core competencies include, but are not limited to, communication, fiscal management, intercultural proficiency, planning, and student learning.Demonstrated success in collaborating with other departments.Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.Proven ability to establish and maintain positive professional and mentoring relationships with college students.May require some lifting of boxes (t-shirts, tent setup, promo items, etc.).Job Ad#
