The City of Bristol, Virginia has an opening for the position of Building Official. The Building Official reports directly to the Community Development Director. Responsible for the inspection of all aspects of construction within city limits and reviewing and approving all building plans for construction within the City of Bristol to ensure compliance with plumbing, mechanical, electrical and general building codes. Supervises the Residential Building Inspector and Property Maintenance Official.Excellent benefits package includes paid time off, participation in the Virginia Retirement System, health/dental/and vision insurance, and more!Successful candidates will possess a minimum of 5 years of building experience as a licensed professional engineer or architect, building, fire or trade inspector, contractor, housing inspector or superintendent of building, fire or trade construction or at least 5 years of building experience after obtaining a degree in architecture or engineering, with at least 3 years in responsible charge of work. Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field preferred. Any combination of education and experience that would confer equivalent knowledge and ability shall be deemed to satisfy this requirement.Valid driver’s license required.The following coursework and certification are also required:Attendance of the Basic Core Module of the Virginia Building Code Academy within 180 days of appointment to the positionAttendance of the Advanced Core Module of the Virginia Building Code Academy within one year of appointment to the positionMust obtain certification as a Building Official within one year of appointment to the position in accordance with Virginia Certification Standards (13 VAC 5-21-10 et seq.)Application and more information may be found at bristolva.org.
