Job SummaryThe preferred location for this position is Raleigh NC, other Duke Energy locations within Eastern NC may be considered.

This position is responsible for encouraging and enabling growth – growth and economic prosperity for the communities we serve, and the corresponding revenue growth that comes as a byproduct. A successful Senior Economic Development Manager will accomplish that by:

Cultivating and caring for a wide array of economic development relationships at the local, regional and state levels.

Bringing curiosity and an aggressive willingness to learn in any areas that need development – whether utility/energy industry knowledge, or North Carolina’s economic development culture and ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Manage economic development leads/projects in the region by developing effective working relationships with state, regional and local economic development partners to enhance Duke Energy's influence in the regional economy. Manage leads/projects in the region - overseeing activity, resources, negotiations, and solutions required for project closure.

Engagement with internal partners including Large Account Management, Government Affairs & Community Relations, Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Rates & Regulatory, Capacity Planning, Resource Planning, Load Forecasting and Legal – to share your view through the economic development and prospective customer lens and receive and understand their view. Drive internal solutions through consensus building to meet project requirements.

Drive efforts to identify, improve and advance sites with industrial development potential in partnership with local and regional economic development organizations through the Duke Energy Site Readiness Program. Maximize the impact of internal resources to bring new sites to inventory and improve the marketability of existing sites.

Position economic development team internally and externally as a key source of knowledge about Duke Energy products and prices to increase the overall value of Duke's participation in stimulating economic growth.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Economics, Accounting or Business

Minimum 5 years related work experience

In lieu of the Bachelors degree and 5 years related work experience, High School/GED and 10 years related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

Previous customer interface experience and/or external equivalent, with emphasis on economic development project management

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated experience in negotiations

Understanding of the energy industry including power delivery, rates and customer service

Demonstrated leadership abilities to develop, integrate, market and implement sales strategies/plans/programs

Proficiency with CRM software, Salesforce preferred, as well as mapping and GIS applications

Working Conditions

Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
