The position provides leadership to successfully implement and manage military and veteran education benefits to ensure both compliance and student satisfaction. The individual provides counseling to service members and veterans (as well as their dependents) from the point of a prospective student through graduation. This position is the school certifying official (SCO) for the Department of Veteran Affairs and is responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance with the awarding and certification of all federal and state military and veteran education benefits administered by the College. The individual will be required to maintain in-depth knowledge of VA Education Programs, the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Vermont National Guard Tuition Benefit Program, and the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program. The individual will be responsible for promoting the College's services for veterans and military personnel at recruitment events and provide assistance in fundraising efforts for veteran scholarships.Key Responsibilities:Manage Enrollment Verification, certification and awarding of veteran education benefits and military tuition assistance.Complete Veterans Affairs audits, military surveys and documents relating to institutional eligibility for VA and Department of Defense programs.Promote the College's services for veterans at recruitment and fundraising events.Counsel veterans, service members and eligible dependents on veteran and military benefits.Manage productive relationships with veteran related agencies.Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all military education benefits and programs.Requirements:Bachelor's degree or 10 or more years of related military experience with a working knowledge concerning aspects of Veteran Education Benefits.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Some travel and non-business hours work is required, as needed.Additional Information:The successful completion of a criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.Champlain College does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, place of birth, ancestry, religion, age, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, veteran or military service status, HIV-positive status, qualified disability, or on the basis of any other status protected by law, and does not discriminate in the administration of its education and admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, employment practices or co-curricular and other College-administered programs.
