Description:Purpose:

The Human Resources Director collaborates with the CFO, CEO, and executive management to develop employee services, policies and programs geared toward creating a stronger sense of community in our workplace. The HR Director is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation.

Essential Functions:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.

Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Provides vision, leadership, planning, project coordination and management for the HR Team.

Employee Relations and Support:

Counsels current and prospective employees about policies, job duties, wages, work conditions and opportunities for advancement.

Develops and implements effective learning and professional growth opportunities for all employees as necessary.

Be trusted personnel for team members to express workplace challenges in a productive manner and works with mangers to implement solutions.

Oversees performance reviews and evaluations, addresses areas of concern, and evaluates proposed promotions or pay raises.

Assists with the development of corporate employee training systems that address company’s training requirements and partners with safety to ensure appropriate training is met and managed appropriately.

Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to frontline management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

Talent Acquisition and Hiring:

Directs and coordinates the preparation of job descriptions and confirms title/compensation parameters for open positions.

Vets job candidates and actively conducts outreach for select positions.

Coordinates with the hiring team and company recruiter to assist on and occasionally conducts interviews.

Works with the CEO and executive leaders to set a strategic vision and priorities for talent recruitment and retention, with an eye on both immediate and long-term needs.

Continuously improves the onboarding process to effectively initiate employee engagement.

HR Leadership and Benefits Oversight:

Develops and builds the Knight’s employer brand by promoting the company’s mission, vision, and values.

Leads and develops a strong and competent HR team.

Serves in a consultative, coaching, and decision-making role to CEO and executive leaders to achieve best business practices.

Performs difficult staffing duties such as dispute resolution and administering disciplinary actions up to and including termination of employment.

Manages benefits administration and work with senior management to negotiate benefits plans with vendors.

Oversees and ensures legal compliance of payroll reporting and other regulatory matters such as 401k, FLSA, EEO, etc.

Requirements:Minimum Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related field of study.

SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in transportation, logistics, or other related industry required.

Ability to effectively communicate with and work across divisions and departments, providing leadership to all organizational levels.

Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.

Ability to travel to plant locations in current and future markets.

High level of organizational and analytical skills.

Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.

Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proactive and a conscientious effective team player.

Physical Demands:

Ability to safely lift a minimum of 15 lbs.

Ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend and descent stairs, and bend.

Ability to work primarily indoors with occasional work outdoors in multiple types of weather/environmental conditions.
