At Houston Methodist, the Senior Training Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing learning solutions for employees at all levels throughout the Houston Methodist system in a variety of formats including in-person and virtual. This position develops learning program content and delivers program content in an engaging way to facilitate learning. The Senior Training Specialist uses industry standard evaluation metrics to evaluate program success. This position also demonstrates broad knowledge and application of the principles, theories and practices of learning and development with strong research skills and proven ability to analyze current and emerging trends (best practices) in the industry to develop effective content and materials. Other responsibilities include coordinating training schedules, conducting training needs assessments and the identification of knowledge gaps, and mentoring other team members to improve facilitation and content development skills.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains strong interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and customers.Consults, analyzes, and designs highly engaging and interactive and innovative learning solutions applying adult learning theories to improve performance and productivity utilizing the 70-20-10 framework.Implements and delivers internally and vendor-developed orientation programs, training, and competency development programs to employees throughout the Houston Methodist system in a variety of formats including in-person and virtual.Designs, implements and delivers leadership development programs and multi-program curricula designed for managers and above in a variety of formats including in-person and virtual to achieve training and compliance goals.Researches and develops topics and content adhering to all intellectual property requirements, avoiding plagiarism, and ensures proper citations in all materials.Conducts training needs assessment on a departmental, service line, hospital and system basis and recommends content and delivery structure to fill gaps and meet objectives.Mentors other team members and training facilitators to improve facilitation and content development skills.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Evaluates internally developed and/or vendor-based learning content and determines plans for utilization of content, marketing, roll out, and ongoing evaluation of vendor materials.Coordinates training schedules. Ensures all participants have correct program information, ensures that materials are available, equipment is working and rosters are maintained. Tracks and monitors attendance and course evaluations for individual classes and over time.Provides assistance in coordination and execution of various initiatives which support the department and Houston Methodist entities including planning, communication, marketing, tracking, and delivery of programs and services.May participate in workgroups and committees across the system to support broader Houston Methodist objectives and goals. Adds value to various work groups and councils as education advocates and conduits for the dissemination of information.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops, implements, and maintains ongoing evaluation strategy for programs. Measures the effectiveness and efficiency of solutions and monitors their ongoing impact. Provides data for metrics and quarterly reports. Analyzes and shares trends and key learnings and provides recommendations based on the findings.Conducts ongoing reporting efforts supporting departmental, educational, and hospital needs.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Determines the need for materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for program activities. Orders or procures necessary items within budgetary limitations and assists with monitoring training program expenditures.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Keeps abreast of competition, competitive issues, industry, technology and innovation in the field of instructional design, leadership, and performance improvement. Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in the face of changing demands.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in training, communication, education, healthcare, industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology, instructional design, or related fieldMaster's degree preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

Five years of experience in a training role with at least three years of soft-skill and leadership training delivery and instructional design experienceHealthcare experience preferredExperience in a formal leadership role preferred
