Position OverviewThe Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division (STCD) is recruiting for an

Air Resources Supervisor (ARS) I

to manage the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Infrastructure Section within the Advanced Clean Cars Branch (ACCB). The mission of ACCB is to foster a sustainable market for zero and ultra-clean emission light-duty vehicle technologies through regulations and market supporting policies.

The ZEV Infrastructure Section is responsible for developing and implementing infrastructure-related policies to support passenger vehicle electrification markets, including actions to support the ZEV Regulation.

Key ResponsibilitiesUnder direction from the chief of the ACCB, the ARS I of the ZEV Infrastructure Section:

Mentors staff and reviews staff work products.

Involves in section projects primarily related to technical, environmental, and economic assessments of electric charging and hydrogen station networks, as well as fuel cell electric vehicles.

Implements actions to improve the interaction between ZEVs and their associated infrastructure, such as standardizing vehicle communication with electric charging equipment.

Provides technical support for the development of equipment to ensure the quality of dispensed hydrogen fuel.

Oversees staff team interaction with other government agency partners, especially the California Energy Commission.

Engages with building code development agencies and industry stakeholders, as well as research contracts.

Manages project timelines and coordinates closely with other sections in the branch to support vehicle regulatory programs.

Working ConditionsThis position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency’s discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards’ (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.

Positions at CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework.

Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement. The position is located in a high-rise building and requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods in a standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.). Expect daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
