ECO Posted On April 17, 2023Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation (PWSAC) is a private, non-profit hatchery association founded in 1974 by a local commercial fishermen’s organization to optimize Alaska’s wild salmon resources.PWSAC produces hatchery-born, ocean raised wild salmon for the commercial, sport, personal use, and subsistence fisheries in the Prince William Sound and Copper River regions.PWSAC presents an amazing opportunity to advance your dream career in the picturesque setting of Alaska. Positions are available at the Gulkana Hatchery, Armin F Koernig Hatchery, and Cannery Creek Hatchery.PWSAC manages four salmon hatcheries in remote, off-grid locations in the Prince William Sound of Alaska and a fifth hatchery in the interior of Alaska. PWSAC is looking for an individual that will unite with PWSAC's mission of sustainable fisheries contributing to the culture and economy of the region. Assistant Hatchery Manager functions as part of the hatchery operations team in the cultivating and rearing of fish. Under general direction, serves as full assistant to the Hatchery Manager in the operation of a fish hatchery requiring management level decision making capability on a 24-hour basis.Primary Responsibilities:
The Assistant Hatchery Manager has a broad range of responsibilities for fish culture, fish harvest, and hatchery maintenance. The assistant is also the front-line supervisor of the hatchery fish technician staff. Administrative responsibilities include assisting the manager in the planning, budgeting, documenting, assessing, and improving hatchery operations.Essential Functions:
Work performed at any hatchery or remote location as needed. Must be able to move about freely; work outdoors in all weather conditions; ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; ability to climb stairs and ladders; ability to climb aboard and about vessels and small aircraft; work around water – on docks and floats; use telephones and computers unimpaired. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must be able to hear and see to receive verbal and written instructions.
