The University of St. Thomas invites applicants for a tenure-track position, at the rank of assistant professor, in the history of modern East Asia to begin September 1, 2025. Geographic and/or thematic specialization are open and scholars focused on pre-modern East Asia with interest and demonstrated ability to teach the modern period are welcome to apply.The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong research agenda and a commitment to teaching historical content, skills, and methods to undergraduates. The teaching load of three courses per semester involves some combination of the following: intro-level courses including
East Asian Civilization
and
World History
in fulfillment of the core requirement (typically in rotation), as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialization for undergraduate history majors/minors and students in the International Studies program. The History Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.St. Thomas is a dynamic, urban university with 10,000 students and 450 full-time faculty.
