Incumbent assists with the daily operations of the Aquatics program in the absence of management. Conducts American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Conducts swim qualification tests for patrons and issues certificates of completion. Responsible for instructing aquatic activities such as Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, and Water Aerobics Instructor. Ensures that all swimmers in the water are accounted for at all times. Must remain alert and observe the swimming area to ensure all water safety rules are observed by swimmers. Responsible for the safety of swimmers in the pool. Enforces swimming pool regulations, ensures safety rules are followed, and accounts for all participants at all times. Requests that patrons who do not obey pool rules/regulations leave the pool area. Notifies security if necessary. Determines patron eligibility and provides quality customer service to patrons. Tests water quality specifically chlorine and pH balances per prescribed standards and documents results; adjusts imbalances. Addresses operational issues in the absence of the manager, deferring to a higher level of authority when necessary. May serve as the acting Assistant Aquatics Manager in their absence. Assists in the preparation of materials and provides patrons with information on those programs. Performs rescue work and renders first aid until a qualified doctor or emergency personnel are present. Performs daily housekeeping tasks to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of the pool and related facilities. May operate a computer and receive money for fees and class registration. Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualification Requirements:Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Water Safety Instructor.Must hold current certification in Lifeguard training or equivalent, Water Safety Instruction, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid, the Aquatic Facilitator Operators Certification or equivalent. Must possess or obtain aforementioned certificates within 12 months of appointment.Must be knowledgeable of emergency water safety procedures, policies, and written instructions. Must possess or be able to obtain instructor certification to facilitate lifeguard and workplace (CPR/Basic First Aid) training within a year of appointment.Effectively meet and deal courteously with the public, present a neat, clean appearance, and be able to exercise control over a group of people.Successful completion of a National Agency (NACI) background check required as a condition of employment.Possess basic keyboarding skills with the ability to adapt easily to workplace software programs.Conditions of Employment:
