To strengthen our Discovery Sciences and Protein Sciences teams in our Boston hub in Cambridge, MA, USA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of:

or

Senior Scientist . As (Senior) Scientist, you will contribute to a scientific team as protein biochemist and cellular biologist. You will generate key reagents and set up in vitro assays to support and accelerate UCB’s AAV gene therapy platform, working in the laboratory, within project teams, and across functions to support drug discovery research at UCB.

You like to work in an environment where you can:

Apply your scientific expertise to provide innovative approaches for expression and purification of high-quality purified proteins across diverse protein classes (secreted, cytoplasmic and membrane proteins).

Establish an in vitro assay platform to evaluate AAV transduction and contribute to analysis of in vivo samples.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones and timelines are met.

You will contribute by:

Expressing and purifying high-quality recombinant cytosolic, secreted, membrane proteins and validating these proteins with quality control experiments such as HPLC and mass spectrometry.

Designing and generating transient and stable cell lines for in vitro assays. Contributing to analysis of tissue samples for the evaluation of AAV or other viral transduction to support our pipeline of drug discovery projects.

Actively participate in project teams by communicating experimental results and advising on best methods to generate protein reagents for downstream applications including but not limited to biophysical characterization, immunization, assay development, screening and hit identification.

skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in related field (biochemistry, molecular & cellular biology, or biophysics) + 0-6 years’ experience, BS or MS 8-15 years’ experience (including industry experience of 1-2 years).

Expertise in recombinant protein expression from mammalian cells and purification utilizing the AKTA platform and current knowledge of purification methods and protocols.

Proficient in cell culture and cell imaging, such as stable cell line generation and maintenance, high content imaging or flow cytometry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with additional recombinant cell expression methods, such as insect cell expression, generation of virus, virus-like particles, and bacterial expression.

Foundational knowledge of cellular trafficking (such as: endocytosis, transcytosis, etc.).

Experience with iPSCs, organoids or other complex in vitro models.

Note:

The level of this position will be adjusted to suit your experience and we will train you on additional methods as you grow in your role.

Salary Range:

$96,480 to $126,630
