General Description
The GIS and Community Development Coordinator manages actions associated with community development, floodplain compliance, and other advanced professional work related to a variety of planning assignments. Work involves providing assistance to the public, county and local boards, other departments, and staff as needed in this area.
Examples of Work Performed
Reviews and processes plans and plats.
Manages the GIS division.
Manages relationships with key stakeholders and conducts or participates in public engagement activities.
Prepares planning information and effectively communicates that information to external and internal audiences orally, in writing, and in presentations.
Manages and works collaboratively with team, department, and county staff.
Provides reports as requested by Director regarding office operations for any given year.
Oversees and performs field work, including inspections and responding to or investigating complaints and report findings.
Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.
Conducts inspections pertaining to floodplains and subdivisions in the county.
Oversees the identification, gathering, and compiling of required geographic data from sources including censuses, field observations, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
Oversees the permit intake process; ensures completeness of forms, and answers questions.Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, urban or community planning or a related field.
One (1) year of management experience.
Experience in geographic information systems.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration:Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license.
Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to a business function, division, or department; and of the principles and practices of public administration and management.
Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems; and in operating computers and applicable computer software.
Ability to manage business function, division, or department activities; to establish goals and objectives; to devise solutions to administrative problems; to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures; to prepare reports; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) with the ability to converse fluently in both languages preferred.
