Why does the job exist?

The IT Systems Administration Supervisor leads the coordination and execution of all IT projects for the General Services Department and ensures its systems, networks, and support services run smoothly. This role exists to manage a team of system administrators, network administrators, and end-user support staff, while ensuring IT initiatives align with the department's goals and are delivered on time and within budget.

How does it get done?

This position is responsible for assisting the CIO in developing and implementing the organizations IT strategy and vision, as well as policies and procedures to ensure consistency in system administration and support of operations. This position will prepare and manage the IT departments budget by monitoring spending and resource allocation, ensuring cost-effective operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

In addition, the IT Systems Administration Supervisor will plan, schedule and execute IT projects, promote the adoption of new technologies and practices to enhance operational efficiency, support organizational goals and lead initiatives for continuous improvement of IT processes and services.

Who are the customers?

Internal customers within the General Services Department - employees and divisions that depend on technology systems, networks, and support services for their daily operations. May interact with vendors and contractors involved in providing IT services.

Ideal Candidate

- Proven experience in IT project management: Strong background in managing IT projects, from project beginning through completion, with a focus on ensuring that projects meet deadlines and budget constraints.- Leadership experience: Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams, managing performance and ensuring the delivery of quality IT services.- Excellent organizational and communication skills: Capable of coordinating multiple projects and stakeholders while providing clear updates to leadership and teams.- Problem-solving and decision-making skills: Ability to manage escalations and make informed decisions that support the success of IT projects and services.- Strong understanding of IT policies and compliance: Ability to implement and maintain IT standards that support organizational goals.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a current and valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification, as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer work; extensive telephone usage and extended periods of sitting may be required. Occasionally, lifting or handling of equipment up to 25 pounds may be required. The role may also involve after-hours or on-call duties to ensure project deadlines are met or urgent IT issues are resolved.
