Job Description
The College of Arts & Sciences seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Business Support Specialist I to provide essential general administrative and office support that includes a broad range of responsibilities for a proximity-based work center comprised of one or more academic departments within the College. Requires a positive, responsible, proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills. Position reports to the Senior Business Specialist within the Center.This position is within the MCPEC Center which consists of the departments of Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, Political Science and Public Policy Admin Program, Economics, and Criminology & Criminal Justice.
Responsibilities:Performs a variety of independent, specialized business support duties for the assigned department(s) or Center under guidance of the Senior Business SpecialistSuccessfully performs multiple administrative tasks simultaneously in an environment with frequent interruptions and deadlinesExecutes, documents and reports on business and fiscal operations using established templates and proceduresProvides administrative support to the Senior Business Support Specialist; organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities and deadlinesRecognizes and solves problems that occur, sometimes without supervisory approvalWorks with various vendors, customers, internal or external constituencies to complete complex projects; essential in implementing UM Shared Service Center Initiative in their respective centerAssists with hiring and procurement for the Department/CenterAssists with advising faculty and staff on UM and campus purchasing policy and procedures, providing knowledge related to financial transactionsPerforms and tracks Budget Projections for the department(s) as assigned by Senior Business SpecialistActs as the Liaison to the Finance Support helpline for complex issuesProcesses and tracks student scholarshipsAssists with scheduling facilities, equipment and catering for events, meetings and programsAssists with creation and maintenance of department websites, newsletters and other published itemsManages and coordinates program application processes; assists with student recruitment efforts as neededActs as an informal mentor to Office Support III staff within the Center, providing training and general instruction; Assists with training new Office Support III employeesMay serve as coverage/backup for Business Specialist or Office Assistant duties as neededOther duties as assignedApplicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Shift
8am-5pm; M-F, 40 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Anticipated Hiring Range
Pay commensurate with education and experience.Hiring Range: $14.51 - $17.50 per hourGrade: GGS-006University Title: Business Support Specialist I
