Job Description
ResponsibilitiesAssist the Department Chairs and Business Manager in business, HR, and fiscal administration for the departmentsProvide support in the processing, documentation and monitoring of unit budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, billing and/or purchasingOversee and/or perform a range of diverse administrative activities for the department; serve as a central liaison with other departments in the resolution of a variety of day-to-day matters concerning the units especially with hiringPerform varied, advanced secretarial and administrative work unique to the departments requiring initiative and independent judgmentMay provide oversight of tasks and/or support to departmental chairsCoordinate the documentation and processing of routine payroll actions, in accordance with University policyReview actions for budget impact, authorization and compliance with campus policyBring variances to unit management's attention for authorization or modificationEnsure proper coding of payroll and finance functions for campus information systems and reportingServe as a source of general information for students, faculty and staff of UMSL and the DepartmentOther duties as assignedSkillsUnderstands how the team integrates with others to accomplish team objectivesResearches information, collects data, and prepares analyses/reports (e.g., data, budget, billing, purchasing), as assignedCompletes routine tasks and assignmentsProvides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on practice and existing precedents or proceduresImpacts the quality, timeliness and effectiveness of the teamExplains information to and within the team, noting improvements, efficiencies, anomalies, etc. to manager/supervisor and/or appropriate team memberServes as a liaison inside and outside the team when resolving routine mattersApplicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Minimum Qualifications
An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessaryAnticipated Hiring Range
