University of Hawai'i at Manoa - Institute for AstronomyDuties and Responsibilities:Processes UH and Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) payrolls to central offices & ensures compliance with State & Federal rules & regulations. Verifies discrepancies in hours worked or follows up with appropriate parties for mistakes in paychecks. Processes & collects salary overpayments.Reviews UH Fringe timesheets for accuracy and completeness and processes to Payroll and/or Office of Human Resources (OHR). Responsible for all aspects of verification of employment.Prepares & processes all employee new hire & benefit documents. Reviews forms for completeness & supporting documents to ensure data consistency with UH, State, & RCUH personnel policies & procedures & Institute for Astronomy (IfA) departmental practices.Prepares & reviews employee leave records. Maintains individual leave record sheets. Advises employees of leave balances. Reconciles monthly leave reports for RCUH.Responsible for disseminating new and updated UH/RCUH benefits information and responding to employees' inquiries.Advises/recommends faculty and staff on payroll policies and procedures in accordance with established policies; composes routine correspondence in response to various inquiries related to Human Resources.Supervises student assistant in payroll, leave record keeping, and general administrative tasks.Assists with recruitment by working with committees to schedule interviews, gather candidate release forms, etc.Responsible for the Human Resources Section of the IfA's Document Management System.Maintains computerized databases for internal use by other administrative users. Generates routine reports as necessary.Maintains personnel records in UH and RCUH PeopleSoft systems.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Human Resources, Management or related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Human Resources, Management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of Human Resources, Management or Personnel Administration demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with Human Resources, Management or Personnel Administration.Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of Human Resources, Management or Personnel Administration.Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.Desirable Qualifications:Work experience in a research environment.Knowledge of UH and RCUH rules and regulations.Experience with financial or human resources information technology systems and understanding of document management systems.To Apply:Click on the “Apply” button on the top right corner of the screen and attach the required documents.
