Position HighlightsThe University of Arizona's School of Dance is seeking a Costume Shop Coordinator. The Costume Shop Coordinator is responsible for creating, altering, and maintaining costumes for productions within the School of Dance, in support of the Costume Shop Manager. The individual will construct garments and provide guidance to student workers in the costume shop. Costumes are to be completed to the highest standard and within the given time frame.This is a 9-month academic year position. click here .Duties & ResponsibilitiesOrganizes and maintains the costume shop, including inventory management of fabrics, patterns, assets, and other supplies.Coordinates budgeting and ordering of materials as needed.Processes and tracks payments, receipts, and resources including p-card transactions and shop costuming budget.Assists with training and mentoring students in costume construction and maintenance.Assists students in garment construction.Ensures costumes are cleaned, repaired, and stored properly between productions.Assists with sewing and stitching costumes for productionsPhysical Requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 50lbs for costumes and supplies, and manual dexterity for detailed sewing tasks.Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesProficient skills in using various sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques is crucial. This includes understanding different types of stitches, seams, and hems.Ability to read and interpret sewing patterns, which involves understanding symbols, measurements, and construction methods.Knowledge and familiarity with different types of fabrics, their properties, and how they behave during sewing. This helps in selecting the right fabric for a project and handling it correctly.Knowledge of fabrics used in dance costumes.Skills in taking accurate measurements and fitting garments to ensure they meet the desired specifications and fit well.Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required by production schedules
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate or Graduate degree or certification in Costume Design, Fashion Design, Theatre Arts, or a related field is preferred.Experience in altering and repairing garments, which requires a good eye for detail and the ability to make adjustments while maintaining the garment's integrity.Experience in costume construction and alteration, preferably in a theatrical or educational setting.Experience in financial tracking and accountability.
