Our client in the technology industry is seeking a Mainframe Database Administrator to join their team. As a Mainframe Database Administrator, you will be part of the IT department supporting numerous IBM application environments and teams leveraging DB2 z/OS databases. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of SQL and tuning, experience in providing technical support, and the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines.
Job Title: Mainframe Database Administrator
Location: Owings Mills, MD
Pay Range: $68-70/hr
What's the Job?
Provide database and system on-site support of the IBM DB2 mainframe z/OS environments
Support numerous IBM application environments & teams leveraging DB2 z/OS databases
Monitor, collect statistical information, and provide reporting on capacity and system performance
Based on statistics, make recommendations to maintain and improve capacity and system performance
Monitor the system, and act upon system and application automated alerts
Perform diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of software, o/s, and database issues (ex. correcting installation, configuration, or data problems)
Plan and perform software installation, configuration, upgrade and patching
Plan and perform database configuration, maintenance, upgrade and patching
Perform and manage system and database backups
Perform manual switch to redundant system / database components, in case of system failures
Participate fully in 24x7x365 oncall rotations for production support
What's Needed?
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required
6+ years experience required including use of all IBM Utilities and Commands in an administration and architecture role
Experience in providing technical support, covering database administration and operations to include monitoring maintenance capacity, performance monitoring/planning and incident/problem troubleshooting and resolution
Strong knowledge of SQL and tuning
Knowledge of IBM Data Studio, Broadcom/CA database administration tools, TMON monitoring
