Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation's capital, invites applications for the Director of Instructional Technology. This role maintains and supports Trinity's learning management system, Moodle; communicates key instructional technology information to campus and external stakeholders; oversees the course evaluation system, Smart-Evals; and engages in periodic and annual reporting. This role also provides synchronous and asynchronous trainings to campus stakeholders, supports all instructional technology-related initiatives and events, provides direct service to students and faculty, and maintains the office website using WordPress. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of best practices in LMS usage, technical expertise in implementing a campus-wide learning platform, coding skills, and the ability to communicate between Trinity's Technology Services and the faculty, staff and student end-users of technology platforms.
Reporting to the Provost and working closely with Trinity's Technology Services team and the Associate Director of Instructional Design, the Director will ensure LMS institutional compliance and reporting features, facilitate Moodle implementation and troubleshooting, assist with orientation and training for students, faculty, and staff in synchronous and asynchronous formats, and support annual and ad-hoc system upgrades. The Director will also supervise Trinity's Moodle Help Desk via Jira.
This is an in-person role at a busy college campus where the Director will visit classrooms to demonstrate or troubleshoot technologies, maintain walk-in hours for end-users, and conduct in-person trainings at orientations or other campus workshop venues.
Specifically, the Director will be responsible to:
Maintain and oversee the LMS (Moodle) each term: open courses, update enrollments as needed, troubleshoot issues, update templates and technical features.Communicate and work with third party contracts for updates on institutional technology- platforms and technical support, such as Open-LMS.Maintain and oversee Smart-Evals, the course evaluation platform: organize surveys, report response rates, open and close surveys in system, and retrieve data as requested.Maintain and update the office website (using WordPress) including FAQ's, departmental information, communication links and training modules.Give live or one-on-one trainings periodically on general or special topics at events such as faculty or student orientations, pedagogical workshops, instructional staff meetings, etc.Interface with Trinity's Office of Technology Services; partner with institutional staff for technology needs as relates to Moodle, instructional tech, or reporting as needed.Update user manuals and communicate regularly with institutional stakeholders on support, updates, trainings, and instructional materials.Answer tickets through the support portal (Jira) via email, phone, and in-person.Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
A master's degree (preferred) in educational technology or related field such as computer science, information technology, or IT management; qualified candidates with a bachelor's degree in field and appropriate direct experience may apply.At least three years of collegiate-level experience with LMS/Moodle implementation and/or managing instructional technology (or similar experience).Experience with implementing and using research, evaluation, and assessment tools that inform successful programs, especially at a student-centric institution.Experience designing and delivering instructional technology manuals and user materials in both live and asynchronous formats.Demonstrated ability to provide excellent and responsive service to LMS and instructional technology users.Ability to work closely with a dynamic team of experts in technology, instructional design, academic services, and information systems to promote Trinity's student-centered teaching and learning mission.Professional, demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
