Chair of the Department of Architecture
to commence July 1, 2025. This post, which comes at an auspicious stage in the life of the department, is intended to augment its legacy in design and theory in the context of its state-of-the-art facilities housed in newly refurbished historic buildings set in a revitalizing city. The successful candidate will be cognizant of contemporary disciplinary objectives and embrace collaboration in an environment of shared governance, along with innovative leadership and efficient administration of educational, research, and service activities. The appointment will be at the level of associate or full professor with tenure and include the associated teaching, research, and service responsibilities of that rank.The role encompasses:guiding the faculty, students, administration, alumni, staff, and external partners;advancing departmental missions, including the provision of an exceptional education in architecture; research, scholarship, and creative work;service to the university, discipline and community; and inclusive academic practices;advocating for resources on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students;bolstering the reputation of the department to the university, as well as at regional, national, and international levels;strengthening and developing programs that address emerging conditions and the academic mission of the university;augmenting the effectiveness of educational offerings through program assessments and accreditation;stewarding the fiscal resources of the department in tandem with the faculty and school leadership;strategizing and participating in recruitment, marketing, advancement, and promotion activities;providing mentorship for promotion and advancement;contributing to the scholarship and pedagogy of the department.QualificationsA terminal degree in architecture (equivalent to MArch) or a closely related field;An exemplary record of design, scholarly or professional accomplishments, equivalent to that of a tenured associate or full professor;A strong record of academic leadership and/or administrative experience, including effective communication, supervision, program management, collaboration, and team building;Demonstrated abilities in fiscal management, negotiation procedures, and advocacy on behalf of varied constituents;A dedication to curriculum development, the student learning experience, and effective assessment that meets university and professional standards;A commitment to student activities, initiatives, and programs.Applications should be received by November 22nd to receive full consideration.
