School of EducationStudent Services Professional IIRESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:The Admissions & Recruitment Counselor’s time will be spent on recruiting prospective graduate/post-baccalaureate students and evaluating admission and enrollment requirements for applicants and admitted students. The Recruitment Counselor will independently plan, work, and carry out day-to-day assignments without immediate direction, including those functions listed below.Recruitment-Related Functions (50%)Develops and executes a comprehensive recruitment plan for the School of Education for graduate/post-baccalaureate students in partnerships with the SOE Dean, SOE colleagues, and University Admissions.Initiates visits at community colleges, schools, school districts, community-based organizations, and regional/national college fairs and advises a diverse slate of prospective students on admission and enrollment requirements.Participates in the organization and delivery of on-campus recruitment programs such as information sessions for prospective students and their supporters.Advises and counsels prospective undergraduate and graduate students and their supporters (via email, telephone, and in-office consultations) providing clear and concise explanations to complex admission requirements and application procedures.Responds independently to inquiries from students and their supporters about the admissions and enrollment process and troubleshoots as necessary.Aids prospective students who are not regularly admissible to the University in developing a plan to attain their educational goals.Collaborates with on- and off-campus partners to disseminate admissions information, including updating community college and university counselors about campus programs and enrollment data.Represents the California State University system by making various presentations to the general public including application workshops, educational opportunities, and support services.Attends periodic professional development training/meetings sponsored by related organizations and the CSU and actively participates in unit meetings and planning retreats.Evaluation Functions (50%)Applies knowledge of student records (transcripts, test scores, and other official documents) to determine provisional and final admissibility in accordance with established criteria and procedures.Makes appropriate recommendations and decisions by gathering and analyzing data, logical reasoning, and drawing valid conclusions as to whether an applicant or admitted student meets or continues to meet admission and enrollment requirements.Interprets and applies rules and regulations with autonomy to accomplish admissions and recruitment goals.Utilizes e-communication and social media tools to enhance CSUCI’s profile in the broader community and engages students in live chats.Utilizes technology, including but not limited to PeopleSoft Student Information System, WebADMT Application system, and CRM communication tool.Collaborates with other SOE staff to assist students in successfully navigating the admission and enrollment process.Assists in the development and editing of communications and systems that facilitate a simpler and more streamlined admissions and enrollment process.Advises rescinded students on the appeals process, participates in the committee to review appeals, and communicates the outcome of those appeals.Calls and emails students to follow up on incomplete admission files and to remind them of deadlines.Assists in training and providing direction to student assistants who respond to inquiries about the admissions and enrollment process.Assists with other admissions and recruitment-related functions and other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the education, behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.The equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of student recruitment.Experience creating and fostering positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, student organizations, public and private agencies.Fundamental written and oral communication skills including a sound foundation in grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and basic arithmetic calculations.Implement standard office procedures, operate office technology systems, and typing/keyboard skills.Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for transportation.Available to work frequent evenings and weekends and to travel overnight on business trips.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds (primarily in the form of recruitment materials).Experience in evaluating admissions files and accurately determining admission.Creating presentations using related software.Familiarity with office-related software used for word processing and creating spreadsheets.A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.Hiring Salary: $4,841 per month
