CompanyHSBLocationHartford, United StatesLocation: Hartford, CT or Austin, TXAs a key member of the Applied Technology Solutions (ATS) Leadership Team, the Head of Sensor Solutions is responsible for leading the overall operations and strategic direction of the business, with full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability. This role oversees the development, implementation, and delivery of Sensor Solutions offerings, including in-house sensor technology, third-party technology, and data-driven solutions. Leading various functions—Strategy, Product Management, Engineering, Sales/Delivery, and Operations—the position provides strategic direction and ensures alignment with business goals.This role will lead efforts to establish and evolve the Sensor Solutions team into the ‘IoT Center of Excellence’ for key clients, Munich Re sister organizations, and partners. The Head of Sensor Solutions defines the technology strategy for HSB, focusing on emerging technologies, integrating technology into insurance (tech-into-insurance), and insurance into technology (insurance-into-tech) to create new insurtech offerings and data products. This role is also tasked with exploring technologies that go beyond current applications, such as leak detection and fire prevention, to develop more advanced IoT solutions.By fostering effective communication and coordination, the role collaborates with internal teams, other HSB divisions, Munich Re divisions, clients, and partners to identify and capitalize on opportunities for growth, innovation, and differentiation in the market.QualificationsEducation and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline; MBA or other advanced degrees in Business or Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.15+ years of experience in leading strategy, product development, and operations in the technology sector, with a strong emphasis on engineering and innovation.10+ years of experience managing or leading complex, cross-functional projects, particularly in technology-driven environments.10+ years of experience in influencing and collaborating with senior and executive-level stakeholders.5+ years of hands-on experience in the IoT sector, with a deep understanding of its technologies, trends, and market dynamics.5+ years of experience navigating and executing within complex organizations, including matrixed or global structures.Knowledge and Skills:Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams in engineering and operations.In-depth expertise in corporate and business strategy development, particularly within technology-driven industries.Ability to navigate ambiguity and proactively drive initiatives that add value to the organization, even in uncertain or rapidly changing environments.Exceptional relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to quickly establish trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.Strong strategic mindset and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.Demonstrated ability to prioritize and address the needs of diverse stakeholders, balancing business objectives with customer and partner expectations.Commitment to living and demonstrating the teams’ mission, vision, and values in all aspects of work.Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive alignment among diverse stakeholders.Proven track record of launching and scaling successful products, services, or businesses in the technology sector, with experience in emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, or related fields.Strong financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, forecasts, and financial performance in a complex business environment.At The Hartford Steam Boiler, a subsidiary of Munich Re, we see Diversity and Inclusion as a solution to the challenges and opportunities all around us.
