Organization:Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation generates community and financial support for the programs, projects, and facilities provided by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District. The Foundation is a separate nonprofit organization that enhances or expands library services beyond the capacity of the district's regular operating budget. Together with the Library District, our goal is to provide the resources and services that our patrons need to meet their information and lifelong learning needs.

We pursue and secure donations, funding, and endowments beyond the scope of the library district's operating budget.We fund additional projects and services for all ages including children, teens, and seniors.We inspire community interest and involvement.

Our Candidate:The Foundation board of directors is looking for a leader who can move the Foundation forward through fundraising to support library goals, community outreach, understanding of the power of libraries and the use of library districts.

With a small staff, the Foundation bolsters the capacity of the FVRL District to better serve the diverse needs of our community's libraries and library users throughout Clark County and SW Washington. Our next Executive Director has a strong fiduciary understanding and will support our staff and the Foundation's role in funding library activities while respecting donor and foundation priorities, guidelines, and restrictions.

The Executive Director will be an active participant in local library levies and will need an understanding of the laws, rules, guidelines, and funding opportunities with a public levy.

Responsibilities:Board of Directors:Implement nomination and engagement plan for board members.Engage with board members in the development and execution of long-range strategic plans.Keep the board fully informed on the foundation activities and influencing factors by providing timely policy and financial analyses to enable decision-making.

Staff:Responsible for the hiring, management, and release of all the Foundation employees.Provide professional development opportunities, annual reviews, and staff feedback on an ongoing basis.Represent staff to the board of directors to ensure understanding of program execution and engagement with constituents.

Finance and Operations:Responsible for the review, development, and maintenance of all fiduciary policies.Work with staff to prepare annual budgets; oversee operations within budget guidelines.Regular evaluation and engagement with financial managers concerning the maintenance, use, and growth of Foundation funds.Serve as the official contact for leases, contracts, technology, and other financial obligations of the Foundation.Engage outside counsel/support as needed to meet objectives and fiduciary responsibilities of the foundation.

Advancement and Donor Relations:Collaborate with the Library District to identify funding priorities and develop funding proposals that align with the district's strategic plan.Provide overall direction, coordination, and implementation of the Foundation's activities including foundation (grants), corporate and individual major donors, planned giving efforts, public campaigns, capital campaigns, and portfolio of funds asset development efforts with Development Officer.Ensure responsive relationships with donors and a donor relations plan aimed at meeting donor needs and expectations and strengthening partner relationships.Meet fundraising goals with direct asks, proposals, and engagement with donors, prospects, nonprofit and government agencies, and businesses to cultivate relationships and foster giving to and through the Foundation.Understand and manage Foundation participation in public fundraising activities.

Outreach:Articulate the goals and visions of the Foundation and build champions within our community to groups, at public events, and with individuals.Provide leadership support for securing Legislative and other government assistance for the Library District's operating levies and bond campaigns.Spread the word to the public regarding the library's value and purpose, needs, and goals.Serve as the public face of the Foundation.Attend conferences, meetings, and events throughout the community.Cultivate and develop trust with individual and district libraries.Establish strong working relationships with all partners including the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, Clark County, and other local/regional library foundations.

Preferred Qualifications:Lived and managerial experience or equivalent college degree.7+ years experience or equivalent managing staff, budgets, endowments, and operations.5+ years fundraising including public and/or private grants, capital campaigns, major gifts, individual giving, events, etc.Demonstrated experience in nonprofits, foundations, and community engagement.Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, goal setting, board engagement, and staff development.

Attributes of Success:Understanding, connection, and belief in libraries as leaders in providing an inclusive community for constituents.Experience with communities in SW Washington.Leadership experience working with staff, board, and partners.Team player with a willingness to participate, lead, follow, and engage with all activities of the Foundation.Ability to navigate competing priorities.Understanding of 501(c)(3) organizations.
